Africa’s leaders aren’t exactly making a good name for themselves of late. But with Egypt’s president Mubarak refusing to give up power and the Ivory Coast still in turmoil over it’s recent leadership elections, at least the president of Malawi is throwing his weight about with a little style, he just wants to make farting illegal.
In a bill proposed by Malawi President Bingu wa Mutharika with the aim of making citizens “responsible and disciplined.”, citizens who repeatedly pass gas in public could be punished as criminals. But locals are concerned that it would be difficult to identify the culprit in a crowded place (we all know that whoever smelt it dealt it).
Ok, so it might be a little heavy-handed, but at least this kind of thing shows that politicians are just humans too. I mean, if you were in a position to make rules like this and got caught in the lift one day by a stinker, just try telling me you wouldn’t be doing exactly the same thing right now.
