Craig Dietz, the swimmer without arms or legs

I don’t know about you, but although I consider myself to be in decent shape, I wouldn’t even attempt a four mile swim.

So you’ll understand why I’m struggling to get my head around how awesome/insane it is, that Craig Dietz, a motivational speaker from Pennsylvania who was born without arms or legs, did just that on Sunday.

Craig took part in the Great Chesapeake Bay Swim, a 4.4 Mile open water swim held near Annapolis every year which raises money for various local charities.

Unfortunately the race was cut short when unexpectedly stormy weather saw lightning strike the bay. Lifeguards were forced to pull about 60 swimmers from the water for safety reasons, Craig amongst them.

Still, Craig made it more than a mile before the race was halted, further than he’d ever swum before and, I’m pretty sure, further than I could swim with all four limbs present and correct…
